MISS DIG 811 Education Department

The Mission of the MISS DIG 811 Education department is to educate, create advocacy, and increase awareness of safe digging practices to prevent damage to underground facilities.

MISS DIG 811 Schedule of Upcoming Events

Good Morning/Afternoon,

MISS DIG 811 is excited to announce the launch of the Damage and Safety Alliance (DSA) replacing the DPA structure. We believe this might help increase attendance/involvement while continuing to build advocates for safe digging. This new platform will culminate in a spring kick-off conference event, to be held each year.

Please continue to meet as you do now. However, MISS DIG 811 will focus their efforts on education. MISS DIG 811’s Education Specialists plan to attend meetings on a quarterly basis and will schedule relevant speakers. We will post this information on our website and in our newsletter.

We welcome your suggestions for speakers and locations as we co-create this new format. During our quarterly meetings we will be planning an event in the spring called the Damage and Safety Alliance Conference – A Spring Kick-off Event.

MISS DIG 811 will advertise and promote the conference on all fronts and would appreciate your support to increase involvement from the surrounding communities.

MISS DIG 811 will arrange to provide:

  • Relevant Speakers such as Fire Chiefs, Locators, etc.
  • Educational Material
  • Virtual Reality Game
  • Demonstrations of equipment
  • Booths
  • Food
  • Give away prizes

We are still looking for one DSA location in the Lansing area; if you have any suggestions, please let us know. If you would like to be a part of the planning committee for this event in your area, please contact:

Linda Portelli lportelli@missdig811.org: West side of state from Mason County down to Berrien County
Dave Bowen dbowen@missdig811.org: Southeastern side of state including the thumb area
Patrick Goddard pgoddard@missdig811.org: Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula

We all share the common goal of supporting safety and saving lives; let’s make a difference and create something we can all be proud of!

As always we look forward to working together

The MISS DIG 811 Education Team
